Linda Diane (Ebbers) Novak, 73, passed away at Heritage Care Center on Sunday, Aug. 18, 2024.

Linda was born in Crete on Dec. 11, 1950, to Harvey and Edna (Franzen) Ebbers. She was the youngest of the six children in the Ebbers clan. She was baptized and grew up attending the Zion Evangelical United Brethren Church rural DeWitt. She attended county school and graduated from Wilber High School in 1969. After graduation, Linda worked in Lincoln for a few years, then Alpo in Crete. After a short courtship, Linda married Verlin (Buzz) Novak. They married in Las Vegas at the Imperial Palace on Jan. 12, 1987. Buzz and Linda bought and ran the Corner Tavern in Swanton for 16 years. After selling the tavern, Linda went to work at the Beatrice State Development Center and Buzz worked at Wal-Mart until they retired.

Buzz and Linda enjoyed traveling and getting together with family and friends.

Linda is survived by her husband, Verlin; sister, Doris (Emil) Odvody of Wilber; brother, Dean (Judy) Ebbers of Mitchell; sister-in-law, Linda Sue Ebbers of Wilber; brothers-in-law, Charles Novak of North Carolina and Dan Novak of South Carolina; sister-in-law, Peggy (Novak) Morgan of Missouri; step-daughters, Lorrie (Kevin) Arnick of Pennsylvania and Tami (Jeffrey) Shoaf of Virginia; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Edna Ebbers; sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Bernard Broz; brothers, Dale Ebbers and Allen Ebbers; sisters-in-law, Donna Shirley of Missouri and Ila Foot of Missouri; brother-in-law, Jim Novak of Fremont; and step-daughter Sheri Fetter.

The funeral services will be Tuesday, Sept. 3, at 10 a.m. at the Swanton Auditorium. Visitation will be Monday, Sept. 2, from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Kuncl Funeral Home in Wilber.
