Howard L. Schuerman, age 88, of Wilber, passed away June 22, 2024.

Howard was born June 1, 1936, near DeWitt, to Henry L. and Amanda L. (Eggert) Schuerman. He grew up on a farm near Wilber and attended District 66 Country School through the eighth grade and graduated from Wilber High School with the class of 1954. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Clatonia. He served in the Nebraska National Guard. Howard was happily married to Vivian (LaVae) Schuerman on July 20, 1962.

He was employed at Petersen Manufacturing Co. for 38 years, working in numerous positions and retiring as plant manager in 1994. He assisted many farmers, lending a helping hand through the years. Howard enjoyed spending time at his farm and caring for his horse. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and bird watching. He loved watching sports and spending time with his family. Howard was a man of many skills and was called upon by many family and friends in times of need.

Howard is survived by his wife, Vivian; daughter, Shona Madsen and significant other Russ Leaming of Blair; son and daughter-in-law, Harley and Patti Schuerman of Wilber; grandchildren, Hayden and Melissa Schuerman of Omaha, Zach Madsen and significant other Makendra Kellogg of Blair, and Kiley and Ryan Nelson of Garland; brother-in-law, Allen (Bucky) Schuerman of DeWit; and many nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Merlin; son-in-law, Mark Madsen; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Joe and Verla Tyser, Floyd “Whitey” Schuerman, Dale and Donna Rezny, and Patty Schuerman.

In honor of Howard's wishes, cremation and private family graveside services will be held at Clatonia Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be Saturday, July 20, from noon – 3 p.m. at Sokol Hall in Wilber. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Clatonia Trinity Lutheran Cemetery and the Wilber Fire & Rescue. Arrangements by Kuncl Funeral Home in Wilber.
